Wake Greenway May Bring 28 Miles of New Pavement to Triangle North Carolina

It would be sweet indeed. However, I think the Mountains-to-Sea Trail in Guilford will be maintained mostly as a hiking trail, which is nice to have also, even if I can't skate it. I've been looking for the best route down that way and it appears that from the southern part of Greensboro, NC-1005 or Alamance Church Road, which becomes Greensboro-Chapel Hill Road gets you to University Lake at Jones Ferry Road, and this is mentioned in some routes as a good bicycling road. Another idea is to follow the old railway lines and highways that accompanied them often, in a route that would be NC-22 and Old 421, down to the area where Old US 1 comes from Apex. It might be possible to scout a route on those lines, but it would be further. The advantage of routing near railways is that in general these routes are chosen to avoid steep inclines, and there would be old, small towns along the way too. Just another on the list of to-do items. The idea is to find skate and bike routes that can be combined with railway access so you can take the train out or back from an excursion. Alternately, perhaps an overnight and return trip the next day would work, if one had the time and stamina.
