Elevation-Speed Profiles and Speed-Heart Rate Profiles for Tour to Tanglewood 2009 Bike Ride Inline Skate

Here is more data from the road between Volvo Trucks N.A., Greensboro, NC and Tanglewood Park, Clemmons, NC in the 2009 Tour to Tanglewood for Multiple Sclerosis. When I make elevation profiles, I like to force x and y to 0 because it helps me see how hilly the event is more accurately. You can make almost anything look hilly by setting the y-axis max/min to the elevation max/min. To make it better, I should probably plot all events on a 110-mile scale or some such (considering Carolina Century at 102 is usually the most I'd try in a day), but I don't yet really like how that looks.

There's so much to say about Athens to Atlanta, but suffice it to say some of us are totally crazy about this event. We've participated since 1999, including the unofficial versions in 2005.

Remedy for Stinky Inline Skates

eebee's picture
Submitted by eebee on August 25, 2009 - 9:47pm.

My previous Verducci skate boots didn't seem to care if they got wet, but my 'new' ones apparently hate it!

These boots just may need to go through the wet-dry-stink cycle a few times to get it out of their system. My 'old' boots were already well worn when I bought them second-hand, so somebody else must've done the honors for me.

Oy. Sorry to be a bit late on this catch, but I got a note from some of our Tour to Tanglewood Roadskater.net team, saying they were off to the Nationals. I didn't follow up and they didn't tell me how to watch, but I finally got around to checking on it, and here's the info.

I haven't looked at results so I don't know how they did. I missed a lot of it but the relays are today (Thursday) and there are some solo races left too, at least in the novice inline division. The quad speed events are yet to come, and that could be fun to watch too.

NCBC (North Carolina Bike Club) Summer Rally Report: 40-Mile Inline Skate

This past Sunday, I skated in the annual NCBC Summer Rally.  I've done this event several times in the past and it has always been a good time.  All of the events that the NC Bike Club hosts are well organized, and I've always felt welcome as a skater to participate.  The cyclists are great too, many of them throwing compliments as they passed.  To some, seeing a skater on the road with them was definitely a novelty.  I'm also happy to report that I experienced no negative incidents all day, be it from cyclists, pedestrians, or drivers.

Just at the end of the Friday "Lonely Hearts Skate" at Country Park with timv the night before the Tour de Lions, I had noticed an odd clicking or rubbing sound coming from my frames, I thought. When I got home I took a quick look but that doesn't always mean much when it's me looking and I'm distracted happily.

The Complete Silver Comet Trail and Chief Ladiga Trail on July 4, 2009

I've just finished and uploaded 835 or so photos of our 95-mile excursion from July 4, 2009. The vast majority of the route was railtrail, with some exceptions we noted elsewhere on the site. Perhaps more comments on the photos later. For now, here's the link...

The 3D thumbnail map lets you see smaller versions of the photos where they were taken on a Google Earth map (requires Google Earth from earth.google.com)...

Inline Skating 67 Miles on the Chief Ladiga Trail in Alabama: Photos and Maps

We had a fine day out, eebee and myself, from mighty hot to excitingly electric weather. Lots to tell but who knows if I'll find the time. Meanwhile here are 410 photos that are geolocated on a Google Earth KMZ file.

We got started around midday when it was getting hot indeed. We drove to Piedmont, AL, where there's a Welcome Center. We planned to skate the 40 miles down and back to the Anniston, AL end, eat some sandwiches and have cool drinks at the car, then do the 27 miles or so out and back to the trailhead of the Silver Comet at the state line with GA.
