Non-Tropical Low Pressure System "Invest 94L" Brings a Wet Couple of Days to the Carolinas

Well Hurricane Hanna didn't really do too much as I recall, other than dump some rain and cancel Saturday morning's festivities at T2T. From my perspective, the current unnamed storm (well it's called "Invest 94L" as far as I can tell, Invest being short for Investigate, apparently; more confusingly it seems there was an Invest 94L that became Hurricane Gustav, but this spinner may not even get a name). See, I don't really know what I'm talking about, but it's the weather so it's usually OK, and I can learn as I go, maybe...we'll see).

Anyway it's well formed if you like such disturbances (I'm not really thrilled when they happen near where I live, but I don't mind so much when they're out over the ocean, ha, kinda purty).

As I write overnight Fri Sep 26 2008, Invest 94L is swirling like a galaxy encompassing both Carolinas in its drenching arms.

"An Invest is an area of disturbed weather that the National Hurricane Center considers "worthy" of further examination. When an area of showers and thunderstorms continues to form over a period that exceeds 12 hours and conditions are such that the disturbed area can possibly develop further, the NHC will begin what is known as an Invest."

"The first Invest will be classified as Invest 90L. The NHC starts at 90L and goes to 99L. When all those are used they begin again at 90L. The "L" stands for Atlantic. Any other designation besides an "L" means it's not for the Atlantic Basin."

This all comes from a conversation with eebee wherein she said she didn't know a name for this storm, and I thought later, as I heard the rain, yeah this one seems like it should earn a name of some sort, since it seems to me it's already dumped a lot of rain in a short time and it's pretty. So now I know a bit more than I did. It's worth investigation but not depression.

And it looks like it'd be a good weekend to be an indoor skater. Maybe. I smell burning flesh! Skateylove y'all.
